Major upgrades will take place at the facility to improve the caliber of the park to Major League Baseball standards as the Charlotte Sports Park will serve as the spring training site of the Tampa Bay Rays beginning in 2009. Amenities which include sports lighting on all fields, upgraded concessions/restrooms/press box, new scoreboards, increased seating, re-sodding of all fields, and an on-site restaurant will improve the opportunities to host local, regional, and national events throughout the months of April-January when the Rays do not have exclusive use of the park.
